Hidi Khola Hydropower Project

The Hidi Khola Hydropower Project (HKHPP) is a run-of-river type hydropower development located in the picturesque hilly region of Lamjung district, within the Gandaki Province of Nepal. More specifically, the project site falls under Marsyangdi Rural Municipality, Juluchhe Ward No. 7. Geographically, the project extends between 28° 22’ 22” N to 28° 23’ 04” N latitude and 84° 29’ 12” E to 84° 31’ 05” E longitude.

HKHPP is designed to harness the natural flow of the Hidi Khola, a tributary of the Marsyangdi River, to generate clean, renewable energy. As a run-of-river project, it relies on the available streamflow without the need for a large dam or reservoir, making it an environmentally conscious and sustainable choice. The project site is situated at elevations ranging from approximately 2,466 meters above sea level (masl) at the headworks to around 1,740 masl at the powerhouse location, showcasing a significant natural drop ideal for energy generation.

Set against the backdrop of Nepal’s mid-hills, the Hidi Khola project represents a careful blend of engineering precision and ecological sensitivity. Despite the rugged terrain and logistical challenges, the project has been planned with a strong emphasis on minimizing environmental impact while contributing meaningfully to the national energy grid.
